THE Saipan Agricultural Fair Association, in cooperation with Northern Marianas College-Cooperative Research, Extension and Education Services, has opened a new category for young researchers for the 35th Agricultural Fair which will be held at the Civic Center in Susupe on Saturday, Aug. 4.
According to Lorenza Aldan, NMC-CREES Family, Community, & Youth Development Program coordinator, the STEM research and development contest is for students six to 17 years old.
“We included STEM on the list of categories for the youth division because we are seeing an increase in interest in science among the youth in our community,” Aldan said.
For the contest, students “can test any environmental or nutritional aspect of farming produce or livestock.” The contest has three categories: elementary, middle and high school levels.
A research entry must be accompanied by a display and/or tri-fold display board of photos and research conducted; and the research must have been conducted on Saipan. Only one entry per student is allowed.
Judging will be based on the extent, depth and creativity of the research, Aldan said, adding that the deadline for submission of entries is Aug. 3.
