Residents from the islands of Tinian and Rota received a chance to advance their leadership and media skills thanks to the 4-H Saipan Youth Council, 4-H Marianas, and the Northern Marianas College’s Cooperative Research, Extension, and Education Services - Family, Community, and Youth Development Program (FCYD).
The 29 participants learned about time management, preparing a resume, interview etiquette, public speaking, and preparing for college. Additionally, members of 4-H Marianas’ production club taught the students the basics of photography, videography, graphic design, and media communications.
Elaiza Songco, a Tinian resident, said that she is glad to have been able to participate.
“I felt really great about today’s training because I met a lot of new friends,” Songco said. “We learned a lot about time management, a lot about college preparations and other information that we’re going to be using in the future.”
The skills taught at both workshops were designed to help Tinian and Rota students effectively market the 4-H activities happening on their islands, and to better showcase them in the CNMI and the nation.
Seminars taught by the 4-H Saipan Youth Council are part of the 4-H Leadership Professional Development curriculum that will be implemented in February and March in celebration of Youth Leadership Month.
“As an incoming ‘4-H’er’ this helped me grow as a person and branch out with new people,” Rota participant Frince Masga said.
